2015 “No 2 Distracted Driving” Video Contest Winners

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 71% of teens and young people say they have received and/or sent SMS text messages while driving. Fully 78% say they have read an SMS message while driving. And the University of Michigan Transporation Research Institute says 25% of teen drivers respond to a text message every time they’re behind the wheel.

The winning team from Bruton HS displays their award for the winning video with representatives from Hall Automotive.

For the third year in a row, local Hampton Roads High School students joined with Hall Automotive, Cox Communications, Geico and Drive Smart Virginia in their commitment to raise awareness towards safe driving in Hampton Roads by creating and submitting videos highlighting the dangers of distracted driving.

A panel selected four finalists from among the entries received. Over a three week period in November, visitors to No2DD.com viewed the videos and voted for their favorites.

Student winners Damaris Forkey, Macy Marotta and Olivia Garcia from Bruton HS.

As Grand Prize winners, the student group and the school both win $3500 from Hall Automotive, Cox Communications, Geico and Drive Smart Virginia. You can view the winning entry and well as the other finalist entries of the 2015 Contest at the website, http://no2dd.com

To promote the winners, Cox Media produced this spot which can currently be seen on air in December 2015.

Our crew was on location on Friday, December 4. Here’s a behind the scenes look at what goes into producing such a spot on location:

Producer Keith Dix sets up wireless audio to record the presenters
.

Director of Photography John Warner inspects the shot.

Hall’s Jordyn Hug and Jean Mahon.

Rehearsing their lines.

Final preps for taping.
Keith directing the master shot.

Our friends from Geico joined consultant Kim Blasdell on set as well.

It was Jean Mahon’s birthday. Even though Lee Banks was out of town for the shoot, he arranged to have a birthday cake delivered to Jean by none other our own Steve Goldsborough. Now THAT’s client service!
Happy birthday, Jean!
