According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 71% of teens and young people say they have received and/or sent SMS text messages while driving. Fully 78% say they have read an SMS message while driving. And the University of Michigan Transporation Research Institute says 25% of teen drivers respond to a text message every time they’re behind the wheel.
For the third year in a row, local Hampton Roads High School students joined with Hall Automotive, Cox Communications, Geico and Drive Smart Virginia in their commitment to raise awareness towards safe driving in Hampton Roads by creating and submitting videos highlighting the dangers of distracted driving.
A panel selected four finalists from among the entries received. Over a three week period in November, visitors to No2DD.com viewed the videos and voted for their favorites.
As Grand Prize winners, the student group and the school both win $3500 from Hall Automotive, Cox Communications, Geico and Drive Smart Virginia. You can view the winning entry and well as the other finalist entries of the 2015 Contest at the website, http://no2dd.com
